5 Ways To Crush Your New Year’s Resolutions

The New Year is here, and people are making resolutions for 2017. Some of these resolutions include but are not limited to weight loss, quitting alcohol or smoking, and keeping in touch with family.

Unfortunately, many people fail to follow through the resolutions they keep making year after year.

You can make 2017 your best year ever and crush your resolutions by trying out these simple and easy tips below:

1) Make SMART Goals

S.M.A.R.T goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound. It’s difficult to map out a plan when your New Year’s resolution is vague like I want to be better at work or I want to learn a new language.  The key is to be specific. An example of a specific goal is: I will to loose 10 pounds by December 31st 2017. Having detailed goals will make it easier to map out a plan to achieve your resolutions. You can do this by setting monthly goals to achieve your 2017 resolution(s).

2) Connect with Like Minded People

People who are around positive people always seem optimistic and happy.  It is proven that our personalities and behaviors are influenced by those around us.  People influence us in an indirect yet profound way. Being with successful people will make you think and help make decisions the way they do since you will absorb their ways of thinking.  Be very cautious in selecting your peers. If someone in your network puts you down then this could impact your confidence, as opposed to, someone who pushes you to greater heights in life. Both societal and peer pressures have strong impact.

3) Find an Accountability Partner

Your accountability partner is someone who will encourage and push you to accomplish your goals. Your accountability partner will help you to stay on the right track with your goals. Losing direction is easy even with all the time management and action planning tools. Most successful people have accountability partners. Below are two benefits of working with an accountability partner:

  • Your partner will encourage you to be specific – An accountability partner will give you the clarity needed to progress.  When you talk to them, they listen and encourage as need be.
  • Tells it as it is – Your accountability partner knows what your plans are, and will not beat around the bush. He or she will tell you the reality no matter how painful it’s going to be. They can be the objective eyes that tell you if you are doing too much or not.

Just be prepared for a little harsh love once in a while. If you’re not willing to give and take that kind of push, then your accountability relationship may not work.

4) Invest in Continuing Education

Long term self improvement comes from our dedication to steady and consistent improvement through learning.  There are many options available such as training at an institution or studying on the web.  Courses, books and podcasts are available to use as well.  Apply commitment, action, measurement, evaluation and adjustment to assist you in making consistent improvements in your self-awareness growth.

Why should you be celebrating your achievements and successes? Celebrating your achievements will help in knowing what’s working well and why. Our successes also motivate us. Last but not least, one of the best reasons to celebrate success is, it makes you feel good! Celebrating your success will motivate you to stay focused by reminding you of the goal you set and why you set your goal in the first place.

In conclusion the above steps will keep you on the right path towards making your resolutions succesful. Be persistent every step of the way. By applying these easy and simple tips you can make your resolutions a reality and reap its rewards.
